THE HAVEN WAY
“A stable home can be the beginning of everything that comes next.”Respect · Stability · Possibility
The Haven experience
Independent living should feel like a home, not an institution. Our model pairs a well-kept shared residence with practical structure, respectful communication, and connection to outside support when needed.
Comfortable shared and private-room options designed to feel settled, dignified, and ready for everyday life.
A thoughtful welcome, home orientation, written expectations, and a straightforward contribution schedule.
Support for a Stronger Start
Eligible members may receive a 30-day transit pass to help them get connected to their new community.
Every member’s journey is different. When requested, The Haven Continuum can help members identify community resources and make initial connections to independent organizations offering employment, benefits, healthcare, transportation, food assistance, veterans’ services, reentry support, and more. Members decide which opportunities to pursue, while eligibility and services are determined by each provider.
Each new member is welcomed with a complimentary first-night meal, offering a comforting start as they settle into their new home.

An individual approach
We consider each person’s needs, the home’s suitability, accommodations, and outside supports when discussing a potential placement.
Using a walker, cane, or wheelchair does not by itself mean someone cannot live independently. We discuss the person’s daily living needs, the home’s layout and accessibility, potential accommodations, and any outside supports to understand whether the home is a suitable fit.
The Haven Continuum provides Independent Living Homes and resource connections. We do not provide personal care, medication administration, medical treatment, or continuous supervision. Any needed outside supports are considered as part of the fit discussion.

About us
The Haven Continuum was established by Doris Kent-Rhone and Vinson Rhone from a shared belief that everyone deserves a safe, welcoming, and dignified place to call home.
Doris’s passion for housing was shaped by the example of her father, Minister Willie Lee Kent Sr., who led a men’s shelter for individuals experiencing homelessness in St. Louis during the late 1980s. Doris saw firsthand how a safe place, compassion, and support could offer someone a second chance and help change the course of a life.
Vinson’s experience as a veteran shaped his belief in service and strengthened his understanding of how structure, community, and a dependable place to call home can help people move forward. His perspective reinforces their shared commitment to creating welcoming homes grounded in respect, stability, and dignity.
Together, Doris and Vinson are continuing that spirit of service by creating homes where adults are treated with respect, supported in building stability, and given the opportunity to move forward with dignity.

A dignified fresh start
The Haven Closet is being created to help new members begin with practical essentials they may not have when they arrive—offered privately, respectfully, and based on availability.

Curated clothing, personal-care items, and seasonal essentials can help make move-in feel less overwhelming and more like a true welcome home.
We welcome conversations with businesses, organizations, and individuals interested in providing approved new or like-new items. To protect member dignity and manage storage, donations are accepted by prior arrangement only.
